You may have heard that the Smithsonian Museum made headlines in November by making 3D models of their artifacts public for viewing and download. We thought it was a great effort to bring real-time artifact visualization to the public! The Smithsonian’s web portal allows users to download and print 3D scans of a few precious artifacts, like a woolly mammoth skeleton and Amelia Earhart’s jacket.

We at Lagoa have a bit of an interest in 3D visualization and were excited to have a go at one of their models. We downloaded the 3D scan of a woolly mammoth straight from their website and rendered it in Lagoa.

Wanna spin it around? There’s a lot of components to this scene, so be patient while it loads!
